Crosseyedvision means to view everything in Scripture and life in light of the Cross and the Christ. Hopefully, these short reflections can aid in your walk down the Narrow Path!
Hebrews 11:38
The man of God has no place to stay. He longs to go to his heavenly home. No place on Earth can give him rest from his eternal fatigue. He sleeps with one eye open, hoping for his King to return like a thief in the night. There is no rest for the righteous on this side of Glory. No REM sleep for the faithful. No comfort for the Saints.
Matthew 6:25-34
God’s care for us is inimitable. God’s care for us is so intimate, that He notices when a hair falls off of our heads. He cares about things that we brush off as insignificant. His care points to His great love for us. We are under His watchful eye 24/7. How else would He know when a hair falls, if He doesn’t watch us all day? And, since He is concerned about the hairs that fall, surely He will keep you from the snares that lay ahead. God is able to see into the future and He waits there for you. We are his children, whom He has adopted. He protects and guides and loves us as a parent loves their child. He loves you more than you love yourself. Submit to His will, even when it’s dark. Let trust become a verb.
1 Peter 4:19
Faith in Christ, inevitably, brings battle scars. Within Christianity we must assiduously walk down the Narrow Path. The Devil will never let us stroll into our Father’s house. He envies us and wages war against us. Beware of his schemes! If he can get you to doubt God’s care for you, why would you want to travel farther, especially when it’s painful? He will say, “God doesn’t care about you. Why would He let His own child suffer? This isn’t love.” Brothers and sisters, beware of the blows that can shake your faith. If he steals your faith, the thing that allows you to look to Christ, you are left with nothing. Your faith allows you to trust God. No matter how deep the wound is or how painful, God is using it to sanctify you. Don’t give up. Don’t stop praying. Don’t stop reading. The sun will shine sooner than you think. Consider the blessings and comforts that await you. After every battle we grow wiser and stronger, producing a faith that can move mountains. Hold tight to the faith that is within you.
Psalm 105:41
Jesus is the rock. Think about that.
Romans 8:3
Look to the Cross! Even now God declares an end to sin’s control over you. The Creator of Universe has said with finality that we are victorious over sin. Who are we to deny His declaration? The blood of our Savior still shouts of our victory. Who are we to silence the voice of the Lamb? No, let us join in harmony with our Lord. Let us join the Saints of old and sing to the tune that comes from Calvary.
Genesis 1:1
Our God is amazing. Who can understand the depth and width and height of His power? He spoke, but only one time and all things have come into being. He needed no advice, nor any tools to align nature. He had no blueprint, but only spoke…once and the birds knew how to fly, the fish knew how to swim, and the plants reached for the sun to grow. Life was set in motion and God made no mistakes. Like the magicians in Exodus, we sit back in awe and say, “What we see is the finger of God.” The same pillars He has set the world to sit on, are the same pillars He placed in Scripture for our souls to rest on. Through our Bibles, we see that He is capable of doing anything. We know of no such Power like His.
1 Kings 22:14
The mouth of the prophet is, indeed, not his own mouth. It is a slave to the Word of God.
Psalm 136
Within the Word is a gracious motif: I am God and I love you. To understand the extent of His love we must spend time in the Scriptures discovering the myriad examples of how much He cares. Anyone can hear about God, but to grow in your trust of Him you must read, listen, and meditate on His words yourself. How can you place your faith in something you know nothing about? Would you marry a person you only text? Would you be confident in passing an exam you never studied for? You can’t trust a God you don’t know. The Bible consists of words that are meant to be read, heard, and meditated on.If we reduce His word to self-help jargon, motivational language, or spiritual clichés the Bible becomes processed food for our brains, not nourishment for our souls. We, as sheep, must only nourish ourselves with God’s Word. Daily, we must graze the green pastures of Truth. We can only deepen our Trust if we spend time learning about why we should trust Him. He has proven Himself in the Word, we must be intentional about taking time to discover how.
1 Kings 18:42
No one had eaten at all that day. When everyone else is fulfilling their physical needs/desires, the man of God denies himself, takes his place on the battlefield shut up to God in prayer. Something similar to Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. The boys can go eat and drink and sleep, but the man of God is burdened by the calling of the Spirit to wrestle till daybreak; to wrestle until his hips are broken, to wrestle until the Lord of Hosts hears his cry and blesses him with His grace.
Psalm 121
God is faithful. God is loyal. He won’t betray you for personal gain. God will always keep His word. As A.W. Pink says, "He never forgets, never fails, never falters, never forfeits His word. The apprehension of this blessed truth will preserve us from worry. To view our situation with [pessimism], to anticipate tomorrow with sad anxiety, is to reflect poorly upon the faithfulness of God. He who has cared for His child through all the years will not forsake him in old age. He who has heard your prayers in the past will not refuse to supply your need in the present.” God’s reputation is on the line. He cares for us because He loves us; but, He cares for us because He said He will. There is no reason to fear, we only need to believe!
